I had a great time at the dyno yesterday with Dave Dawson, Mike Pederson and
Dave's partner, Ian. I'm heading out on a trip but suffice to say my car
performed amazingly. My intent was to baseline the car before I install the tubular
manifold and GT 35R ball bearing turbo. I also wanted a base on the recent
fuel, SW, and exhaust mods.
To review, I recently went to bigger injectors, 440cc @ 3.0 bar vs 370cc, a
Bosch Motorsport 044 high flow fuel pump, custom fuel reservoir, and larger
lines to eliminate fuel starvation at the top end. Gunther of Sportec spent a day
on the dyno with my car remapping the entire SW package. And, thanks to Mike
Pederson's observation and guidance, I replaced the rear section that goes
over the axle including the muffler of the Stromung with 3 1/2" pieces. It seems
that those of us with 2nd generation Stromungs got a pinched down 2 1/2"
intake to the rear muffler.
The overall feel of the car was dramatically improved. It is much smoother
spooling up and it sure did feel much more powerful on the butt dyno. The
Dynojet confirmed my butt!!! Best run of the day was 420hp and 475ft lbs vs 412hp
and 430ft lbs. The torque came on about 300 rpm sooner and the hp came on about
600rpm sooner. I was blown away by the 10% increase in torque. I let Dave
Dawsons's partner, Ian, drive the car and rode as a passenger. When you're driving
it you know when to brace your neck. As a passenger you don't and now I
realized why my wife complains about my driving when accelerating. This car snaps
your neck! I'm very happy with the results and it won't be long for the next
itteration.
