[s-cars] FMIC

Bob, I think Ray's onto something with:

"The vertical core bar&plate not only offers less pressure drop over the
stock IC, but also increases the number of charge cores from 17 to over 30. By comparison, a tube & fin cross-flow measuring 23"x10" offers only 21 charge cores. Thus, cross-section alone does not determine an IC's
efficiency. At 750cfm, my vertical FMIC is both small and more efficient than the stock IC. After 2 hours on the dyno, my inlet temps never rose above 170F, and my TB temps dropped to within 3-7F of ambient (84F day), and that's with (1) 40mph fan on the front of the car. Before the FMIC, my inlet temps were between
250-280F, and TB temps reduced to no less than 150F. "

If it can be done at reasonable price this sounds like the way to go...

Cheers, /Jamu.

Hi Y'all,

Just floating a vague idea for now.

How would a custom bar and plate FMIC for your s-car for under $600
(perhaps well under) including hardware, tubing, connectors, clamps, etc.
(in short - a kit) sound to you?

I did some measuring and it looks to me like a unit 27" by 10" by 3" should
fit in there nicely without cutting anything on the car. Details remain to
be worked out but only if there is enough interest to make the effort worth
making. Small details like where do the mounting points attach and just
how long does this section of tubing have to be, etc., remain to be worked
out. If anyone has suggestions please make them. I am in contact with a
person who manufactures intercoolers and it looks to me like he does good
work.

Bob
