I don't think it's a valve spring problem. The closing of valves is
100% related to RPM, load has essentially nothing to do with it.
Is the noise different when the engine is hot or cold? How loud is
the noise? Can you hear the noise standing near the engine with the
hood open? If so, do you have to accelerate the engine above 3000 RPM
before you can hear it? Is it audible when you just blip the throttle
to run the RPMs from 3000 -> 4000 and then when decelerating back from
4000 -> 3000?
If you can hear it at 3500 steady state with the hood open, it may
be distortion of worn engine mounts that cause you to just hear it
with acceleration & deceleration when you are in the car.
Give us some more information ...
