Paul,
I had 255-40-17's on my S4 with SSR comps 17x8.5 wheels and the would rub
in reverse at full lock and also when I had four people in the car and would
hit a comression in the road they would rub the fender a little.

It's time for new skins for my car and I'm debating which size to buy.
The patient is a 95 S6 with 2-Bennett coilovers and Koni adjustable
shocks all around with 2-Bennett front camber plates (2nd generation).
The wheels are 17x8.5 ET 38. I'm confident the 245/40 will fit and
clear without any troubles, but can the extra 10mm width that comes with
the 255 fit without rubbing? What does the list think? Will it only
rub at full lock? What about with 4 passengers? (but that is a rare
day) The car is not tracked - yet, but these will be my summer only
street tires.
Just need some wisdom from other's experiences with the different sizes
and what I can expect.
TIA,
Paul Dooley
95 S6 - still running my snows.
