Better yet... have some fun and turn the tables on them... there are web
sites dedicate to "Scamming the scammers".

I read this one story where a guy was selling a laptop, and he basically got
the same type of offer so he accepted it and shipped the guy the package
making sure it was clearly marked with a value of $2500. The buyer had to
pay shipping and taxes, inside was a binder with cutouts of keyboard and
screen made to look like a laptop...(his version of a laptop) it was
hilarious! he scammed the scammer... and yes the check was bogus.

Usually if you tell them the check must be drawn on a local bank or bank
with a local branch they drop interest...

Evan;

One mode of this scam is "overpayment and refund". You ask, say, $12,000 for
your car. The scammer sends you a draft or certified cheque for, say,
$18,000 and asks you to personally refund all or part of the difference
(usually implying that his buyer is willing to pay more and you and he might
as well profit from it). You send him the refund. His certified cheque or
draft bounces. He has your money and maybe your car.

If it looks too good to be true, it usually is. These guys play on greed and
the desire for a quick buck. Be careful - it's a jungle out there in
Internet land!

S-Men,

I just listed my car on the Marketplace a few days ago and have been
receiving really odd inquiries on my car. Apparently, the Nigerian
email scammers have suddenly come into the market for fine quality
used automobiles. I haven't quite figured out how the scam works, I'd
be interested to know if any of you know what they're trying to pull.
Hopefully nobody would get scammed by these guys, but I definitely
wanted to pass it along to anyone else, just in case...

"The more you know...." *cue music*
