I'm interested in trying the Falken Ziex 512 (probably 255/40-17 on 8"
rims), the price is certainly right. With a treadwear of 360, they can't be
too sticky, but how do they work otherwise as a performance tire? I don't
need maximum dry grip, but I do push hard occasionally on the street and
plan on 2-4 track days (DE) per year. Is the response nice and progressive?
Quiet while cornering? I will use another set of wheels/tires for heavy
snow, but I would like something that's good in the rain and not totally
useless in the snow. As a point of reference I'm now using Toyo Proxes ZR4
(225/50-16), which aren't too bad (M&S rated, will probably keep for winter,
then replace w/ studless snows).
Anything else in that price range I should consider?

> If you're looking for an all-season tire, I would highly recommend the
Falken Ziex 512. We have these mounted on my wife's A6 4.2. It was top rated
last year by Consumer Reports for High performance all-season. The wet
traction and resistance to hydroplaning on these is phenomenal.
