i used a breaker bar on the other side for the axle bolt and didn't
think to try it on the caliper bolts. frustration must have set
in and clouded my thinking. good tip.

that's actually the very impact gun i'm using. the bolts laughed
at it. you're right about more torque with the breaker bar. i'm
one of those guys that will pick up a hand tool first, anyway.

heat, yes. good idea. that and/or the breaker bar will be the next
line of attack.

it's not keeping the rotor in place, it's lining things up to put
the wheels back on. all my past BMWs had a simple set screw that
held the rotor against the hub and lined every thing up - kept
it in place, no matter what you were doing.
