You will see a lot more heat from the exhaust manifold and turbo at the
intake and fuel lines than you will from the bottom of the down pipe.
Those heat shields have more to do with keeping the exhaust temperatures
high for better catalytic converter operation after the first few
minutes of operation. I cut away the corroded section on mine.
