[s-cars] Cruise Control

I just had my car into the mechanic to try and diagnose the cruise control
issue I was having and no luck.  The symptoms are that about a year ago it
started being intermittent like everyone describes, sometimes not quite able
to hold the speed but it was trying to do something.  It got worse so I
replaced the switches at the pedals to no avail.  The mechanic took out the
vacuum pump and bench tested it and it worked fine.  He now says he will
have to take the dash apart to diagnose any further with the control
unit????  Take the dash apart?  Isn't this control unit in the passenger
side kick panel? I am driving am 1800 mile trip at the end of next week and
it sure would be nice to have the cruise control working!
