Bob,
I live about 7 miles from the track and grew up about 2 miles
from it. The roads around here are pretty good as others have
said and make 2 or 4 wheel driving an enthusiasts dream. As far
as hotels we are rather lacking considering we have both a road
course and horse track within 5 miles of one another! However
here are some choices in the Charles Town area, listed in my
order of preference:

Quality Inn: 304-535-6302 (about 7 miles from track in Harpers
Ferry WV, about .5 miles from my house) Just renovated!

Turf Motel: 304-725-2081 (in Charles Town directly next to Horse
track and casino, about 4 miles from the track) old but a
stalwart of the area.

Towne House Motor Lodge: 304-725-8441 ( directly across from Turf
Motel)

North Gate Inn: 304-725-1402
Older motel

That is about it, there are a couple Budget Inns in the area but
I wouldn't recommend them. I also would say that staying in
Charles Town/Harpers Ferry is much closer than Winchester and
the road getting to the track (Summit Point Road) makes the stay
here in WV more enjoyable.

There are tons of B&B's in the area if that is your thing.

I would say Quality Inn is your best bet unless you go to
Shepherdstown WV which is about 15 miles form the track, it's a
quaint village that has some very nice hotels$$ , The Bavarian
Inn 304-876-2551 and the Clarion Inn 304-876-7000.

Good luck! Any other questions about the area just let me know!

John
