Eliajh,
Stefan and I have done this on his car. However we did splice the low 
voltage wires to the OEM connectors since we did not feel their 
replacement was needed.

After that unfotunate incident with Stefan's car I myself chose to cut 
the wires to all of my 5 coils and spliced in-line fuses into their 
respective circuits. Keep in mind that any shorted coil will take with 
it the main 15a FI fuse under the passenger side subfloor next to the 
ECU. This in turn will require a flatbed evacuation because the car will 
become disabled.
