[s-cars] blow off valve orientation... was Re: Fluttering Soundfrom Turbo?

I guess I was mixing up the words a bit...oops. It looks like I have the
Forge "Race" diverter valve with the diaphragm, not the Forge 007 valve with
the piston. This race valve with the diaphragm is the one that I was
describing (and accidentally interchanging the words piston and
diaphragm...my mistake). I don't know how the 007 valve is supposed to
go.

Bill, for an aftermarket BPV there is no diaphram, it's a piston. So as I
understand the reasoning is to put it in backwards to the air flow is not
pushing on the pistion but on the side of the piston. The original BPV is a
diaphram design which more like a valve... so the design is different.

I think no matter which way it goes, the boost is still hitting the bottom
of the piston.
If connected the original way, the boost is on the donut shaped area around
the outside of the bottom of the piston....if connected the new (backwards)
way, the boost is now in a 3/4 circular area in the center as you mention
below, and on the bottom of the piston. The top always gets the boost
or vacuum from the small hose.

I believe it is just a matter of which way the air flows. The
instructions that come with it say to re-orient the valve to prolong the
life of the diagram. It seemed strange to me... but I think now that it
can work either way.

Yikes... not me. Installing the bypass valve with boost hitting the
bottom of the piston (or diaphragm) is a huge strain on the BPV. I can't
imagine it would be able to remain closed either. Keep in mind that the BPV
is only getting boost through a 4mm hose connected to the IM. OTOH, the
bottom of the BPV is seeing full boost from a 3/4" hose that is seeing
pre-IC pressures (higher than the IM pressures). Sounds unfair to me.

Also, I would bet heavily on the original poster's problem as being a
failed BPV.
  FWIW,
  Dave

Speaking of backwards....

I installed a new polished forge 007 diverter valve from ECS tuning. The
instructions that come with it suggest installing it the other way...or
"backwards."

-- "When installing this valve we would suggest that the side pipe is
installed at the return to the turbocharger intake....This revised method of
fitment will prolong the life of the diaphragm." --

It kinda makes a high pitched whoosh sound when it opens (as I let off the
throttle). At least I can hear it working....
I was wondering if anyone else has used this valve...and how it has been
installed?
