[s-cars] AC conversion

At the cost of $90lb no leaks should be an absolute certainty. Doesn't sound
like your quite there yet. I would find a shop to leak test without freon.
Some can charge with nitrogen or something and use a leak detector.
Alternatively they could charge it up with R-12 and uv dye and next time if
there is a leak it will be obvious with uv light./glasses or even the naked
eye. A few hours labor of leak detection may add up to more than the R12
that leaks out.. When I work on A/C I always use UV dye or oil with UV dye
to make future leak detection a snap.
I wouldn't convert to R134 unless you have major component failure like
the compressor. Then convert with new everything, compressor, drier, R134
condenser (more efficient and thinner, more room for FMIC),all rubber hoses,
all orings, orifice tube, and flush out all old oil in remaining system. The
pressure switches are differnet, but their switch points are close enough.
Just remove clean and replace the schrader valve & orings under them. This
also helps get old oil out of that coupling. The conversion expense is too
great if your current system is functional
The lack of a low side service port is only a nuisance. Working on the
system without it in either freon is no problem, and one can be added during
conversion if desired.
