[s-cars] to short shift or not to short shift

 I trust my mechanic and I trust the judgement of this group, so here is my question:
been thinking about getting and installing a the short shift kit from EuroPrice, it sounds pretty rad. But my mechanic strongly insists that I do not install a SS kit on my car as it will prematurely wear out the syncros in trans, says hes seen 11 cars with SS kits and they all had bad transmissions.  Alex at Europrice says its all good, I'm just wondering what the list opinion is on this subject and from anyone with short shifter experience in any car and if there have been any problems.
