Bob, the IR is indeed a strange beast... however mine works fine as long as
I always remember the rule never to use it indoors under florescent lights.
Better yet... stop being stubborn and get with the times... convert to RF
;-)
here's something to help you in your quest:

Or alternatively you can just get a Votex RF Lock Upgrade - it comes with
harness and is a plug & play install into C4 Audi's for a bit more coin:

Hope that helps ease your stubborness... ;-)
Cheers, /Jamu.

Reply to my own post,
I've decided that the IR locks on these cars are one of the great mysteries
of the world, right up there with the origin of life and how they get the
caramel in the Caramilk bar. Now the driver door inside locking switch is
working semi-properly: it locks all the doors but won't open them. The IR
function on the drivers side is still not working. What is involved in
getting at the receptors and testing them or switching sides? I know I
should junk the system and convert to RF but I'm stubborn. As well, I've
been threatening to sell my car and I believe the thing has picked up the
vibes, it's saying "you can't sell me because I will constantly have some
annoying little thing wrong so nobody will buy me. I'll fix you for parking
some Japanese tin can beside me in the garage". As well, now the car has
developed an intermittent miss that is never there when I try and do the POS
and coil checks at home. More on that later, I'm sure.

terminal. Is this the way it should be or do I have a loose wire floating
around in the door? I'm quite sure it worked properly for a while after I
had the door apart for a new amplifier a long time ago, and it appears to
show 4 wires in the wiring diagram so I think it is ok.
