What Jim says is true.  As well, check that the actual CC switch is working. 
I've had many problems with older Audi signal stalks involving the cruise. 
My now sold 4kq had a signal stalk out of a 90q20v and the cruise would only 
work if the stalk was on the high beam setting.  It would also cancel if the 
turn signal was used.  My 5ktq also occationally cancel the cruise if the 
turn signals were used.  I have also had these switches completely fail so 
the cruise doesn't work at all.  I haven't had any problems with the S6's 
cruise as of yet but I've only had it about a month!
