Vincent,
On my car, the metal sleeve was seized in the control arm bushing, so I
couldn't pull it out with pliers as others on this list have suggested.
I removed the control arm by slipping a hacksaw blade between the
control arm bushing and the subframe, and sawing through the ends of
the sleeve. The sleeve is made of soft aluminum, so this was a fairly
easy task. A new sleeve cost me $13 at the local stealer.
As for avoiding "punching the ball joint boot" when reinstalling the
ball joint into the strut housing, I recommend having a helper pry down
on the control arm/swaybar assembly with a long pipe while you maneuver
the strut back onto the ball joint. Without a helper, you stand a good
chance of tearing the boot. Don't ask me how I know.
Regards,
Eugene

Hi all,
I need to replace the control arms and I'd like to know what tool to
use to
remove the metal sleeve in the control arm to subframe bushing, NAPA
reference preferably.
