Our '97 S6 had this leak a year and a half ago and I
had the whole line replaced with a new one from the
dealer. A few weeks ago, the replacement line started
leaking at the connector where the flexible braided
hose meets the hard line.

Not wanting to fork out another RM400 (USD100+) for
another line that will likely fail again in a year's
time, I decided to try to fix the problem myself
first.

I put a hose clamp around the connector but stripped
the thread on the band so I got another clamp and
crimped the screw holder a little more so that the
screw bit deeper into the threads in the band and
installed that. Watching the movement on the clamp, I
tightened it until the threads on the band just
stopped moving relative to the screw housing.

That held and there has been no more leak since.

Now I have just discovered that the after-run coolant
pump (2 years old) is leaking again so I'm going for
another hose clamp solution.
