[s-cars] here is more 95 trans noise (think it is trans)

heard this noise (sounds like a diesel engine) when starting in first gear at low rpm, also in 2nd at low rpm and 3rd. thought it could be a galled first gear, but it's only at VERY low rpms, and it happens in 2nd. also in the summer with warm temps it only does it when first starting to drive, once car is warm there is no sound at all. 
strange==could it be the clutch?
