HI:
Replying to Robery Myers, yeah I'm still able to arrange discounts for Stromung and do so regularly.
In fact there are a few units in stock now. 4th Generation, improved. Write me offlist.
Remember it's always best to buy these before the springtime when Stromung gets real busy.
Allow me to correct "Dave Dawson" on a few points..
(Not to bash DJ, but the truth must be known. )
"First, they've been using 2 1/2 inch mufflers with 3 inch pipe welded
over it... with no transition. "
JP-This is _not _ true at present. Please inspect the current production system.
Early Generation 2's had this flaw, was corrected 2.5 years ago.
Now Gen 4, called RSS is full and complete 3" all the way.
There are FOUR generations of Stromung out there, so be careful to look for the latest Gen 4.
It's easy to get the wrong impression by evaluating an older system.
"Sit in Stromung equipped car's back seat
sometime and listen to the full throttle whistle similar to that of a 70's big block
station wagon wheezing through a tiny muffler. "
JP-If you say so , I'll believe you Dave. I always drive in the front left seat !
"Second, the downpipe uses a very poor wastegate pipe design that re-enters the downpipe perpindicular to the main exhaust flow. That's a well documented no-no, known to cause power loss. "
JP- This is not true at present as well Please inspect the current production system.
Early Generation 2's and Gen 3's had this flaw, Now Gen 4, downpipe has the WG enter "downstream" at a gradual entry. Look at Charlie Smith's site for latest photos. You'll see my points are accurate. Or write my offlist, I'll send a package of photos.
"Finally, several folks have had downpipe weld failures. "
JP- Yes that is true, product innovation to improve the DP did cause STROMUNG some early production issues. In all cases I am aware of, on RS2 equipped cars this failure occurred.
In my personal experience, on IA Stage3 the DP has never failed. Stromung has been talking about tougher material for RS2 cars since the stresses are higher. Do I here Inconel?
The first early versions of the new RSS DP was revised as described above did have a brace fail and caused a crack on the WG tube. A real PITA for some. Every DP I am aware of was replaced free, plus the DP was revised with stronger braces and 'TIG' welded at the critical junction. JP
"While I've never done or heard of anyone doing back to back tests, I'd be willing to bet the
stock system outperforms the Stromung... even though it doesn't sound cool."
JP- See archives for voluminous debate on this topic
My biggest complaint is delivery estimates very widely, plus the system is not in stock, normally.
thanks for listening!
