I concur.  I have had Bilsteins on each of my cars since '81.  While
that's only 4 cars, it covers almost 450,000 miles.  I only ever had one
failure, which was on my '81 Scirocco after over 100k miles on the
shocks.  Right front locked solid.  Brought the shocks to Bilstein here
in CT and they gave me a new pair of front inserts.  They mentioned they
would occasionally see this on the A1 chassis VWs due to too much flex
in the shock towers.
