[s-cars] Bucking under full throttle, update

On Friday while driving home from work the car had a bad idle and felt like it was running on 4 cyls. I finally got around to checking it out today while at by sister's house ( bro-in-law has a nice set of tools and alway helps with cars). First thing we do is check to see if the plugs are loose, of course two of them are. Tighten them up and take a quick spin round the block, no improvement. Then pull each one of the plugs and take a look at them, get to # 5 and WTF, no electrode !

Get in my sisters car and grab a Champion plug from a local Autozone ( I know, I just wanted to see if it would run). Of course it doesn't fix the problem. The connectors don't look too great so we pull each one off and check the resistance, all fine. However the # 5 cyl one has black oil on the top part where it connects to the coil.

So tommorrow I need to call around for a new coil, plugs and connectors. What could have caused the missing electrode?

Bucking? An engine miss at WOT, maybe? If so, it's likely to be a failing coil for one cylinder.

Finding the missing cylinder isn't the easiest thing to do but this procedure may help.

Disconnect the electrical connector for injector #1. Drive the car at WOT long enough to build up some boost. Of course the engine will miss on #1 but if an additional miss develops with boost then the miss is not in cylinder #1. Go on to #2, etc, until you find the cylinder which does not get worse when at boost. That is the bad cylinder.

You will get responses telling you that your power stage output (PSO - sometimes referred to as a POS with some justification ;-) ) has failed. IME when the PSO has failed you get a full-time miss, not just a miss at boost.

I noticed this when pulling away from the toll booth yesterday. Does not seem to do the bucking under half or 3/4 throttle only under full. I searched the archives briefly and most posts refer to boost leak and hoses. I have installed Samco hoses and Breeze clamps last year. Anything else I should check while poking around under the hood? I will not be able to check it out until Saturday or Sunday.
