[s-cars] Bump Stops?

I am having a bit of a problem with the front end bottoming out.   Speed bumps I can handle, but I've actually had the part of the frame (those steel protector things) hit the pavement if I drive too fast thru a dip in the road.    I have Intrax springs and Koni Struts (95 S6).    

I noticed while adjusting the Konis that the Bump Stops seem to be missing.   I think my mechanic removed them after I complained that the front suspension had been bottoming easily.   Now the suspension doesn't bottom, but the car hits the pavement.  

What have you all been doing with regard to the front Bump Stops?    I thought I read something about having to cut or shorten the stock stops.    What is the right thing to do here?
