Hi Lee,
The HIR lamps are a modified variant of the 9007/9006 type bulbs with an
added infra-red reflective coating on the inside of the bulb. The idea
is visible light exits the bulb, but a good deal of the infra-red (heat)
generated is reflected back onto the filament making it glow hotter,
generating brighter, whiter light for the same input wattage/voltage.
