I had the same problem with our old S6 avant. If you can find someone local on the list with a VAG-COM you can have it reset easily. If it turns back on as soon as you turn the wheel, it's the clock spring. It is a $300 part located on the backside of the steering wheel. They wear out and signal gets interupted to the computer. I got a used one from Shokan for like $100. Problem solved.
