Jerry,

You have stated:

Your car won't start without the extra current drawn from the other
battery.

The engine turns over at the normal speed.

Sounds to me like the extra voltage/current is needed to either bring
the fuel up to pressure or provide enough ignition. Either way I'd have
the battery checked and prepare to replace it. My experience has shown
that these cars can be sensitive to weak batteries.
