In case you're interested, Siemens/VDO makes a very nice fan that costs less
than oe: http://www.siemensvdo.com/default.aspx?menu=CC_engine_cooling

Subject: [s-cars] Viscous fan clutch has gone bad. Electric Fan, anybody
done it???
I'm thinking rather than to replace this expensive inefficient fan I would
just install an electric fan in its place. What size serp belt would I
install? How hard is it to remove the fan, special tools?
I've found a price of $100 for the clutch and $50 for the pulley assembly.
Which one of these would cause a noise, only at idle. The noise sort of
sounds like a knocking, which I thought was the motor but the noise went
away when the serp belt was removed. Also, the fan is loose, I'm not going
to drive it anymore in fear that the fan will break apart and destroy the
radiator.
What have you all done???
Thanks for your help. Emmett
