Mark underwhelmed:
Subject: RE: [s-cars] Pearl White S8
My $0.02 on the S8 is that it is very underwhelming. A good buddy has a
2000 4.2 40V A8L which I have driven quite frequently. We recently went to
drive an S8 in the area as he thought (and frankly so did I) that the delta
between an A8 and S8 would be similar (albeit to a lesser degree) to that
between our vintage A6 and S6. Not even close!! Other than the sport seats
in the S8 and the taughter suspension, my seat of he pants measurement
recorded no difference at all.
At nearly $10K more than an A8L, he is staying put with the caveat that he
is trying to source some sport seats.

While I suppose I agree the 'delta' isn't that of going from A6 to S6, the
A8L I flogged paled in comparison to the S8 I also flogged. Like Jim says,
lighter, better brakes, great seats, lots of little googads, etc. I was
VERY underwhelmed with the A8L personally. The S8 made awesome noises, and
was very 'point and shoot' able. Addictive fun.
Just wait till the continue to depreciate to all hell then pick one up.
Lotta car for the cabbage methinks.
In 2-3 years when I'm ready for a more mature car I'm aiming to add one to
the mix.
