I had a '93 Miata that came with a tall wooden Nardi shift knob.
The shift throws seemed long.  I replaced it with a round Voodoo
knob.  I was surprised at how much it transformed the shifting
action. I'm guessing the top of the lever went from 6" to 4-1/2"
above the console, shortening the throw dramatically.  That
1-1/2" is a big part of the shift lever.
