[s-cars] Boost controler recommendations

Folks,
I have recently installed a boost controller on my car. Having tried
numerous different chip boost profiles, it has become obvious that there aren't any
that maintain higher boost levels in the higher rpm range. My current chip
allows a peak boost of 28psi, but by the time I reach 6k rpm, boost has fallen to
the mid teens.

So, as an experiment, I've been playing with an early Turbonetics boost
controller purchased used from a lister. The price was "more than right" for
experimentation purposes. I've tried regulating boost using vacuum to the bottom
of the wastegate, as well as boost to the top... I've also tried various
springs and settings. The results, however, remain the same regardless of how I
regulate the boost.

Boost regulation through this unit varies by gear. I can set it in 2nd gear
pulls to achieve 25psi max... and it will maintain most of that level through
7k rpm... maybe 1 or 2 psi drop. That, in and of itself is satisfactory.
However, when I do a full throttle 1st gear pull, max is only about 20psi. Go to
3rd gear, and it hits 30 psi. 4th gear, the needle was swinging so fast it
went well past 30psi before I reacted and let off the throttle.

So, I'm thinking the unit is a little too rudimentary for the task. I've
tested it thoroughly with regulated compressed air, and everything reacts as one
would expect... slowly increasing the duty cycle of the freq valve as boost
increases... which in turn reduces the amount of boost applied to the top of the
wastegate. So I'm looking for recommendations on units folks have installed
and had good success with.
Thanks,
Dave in CO
