by the way, shift quality has never been a big issue for me.  the miatas
have the shortest throws of any car i've owned, and they are probably
the "best" shifting cars i have.

but as long as i can get the car into the gear i want, and not
grab 2nd gear when i'm trying to shift into 4th from redline in 3rd,
shift quality isn't very important to me.
