Dave;
Where was your new Bosch pump made? The original pumps in our cars were made
in Western Germany. The replacement Bosch pump I got from the dealer for my
'91 200q was made in Czechoslovakia. Man, was it noisy right out of the
box - sounded worse than the old one I replaced. Still running though.

Bob: My heart goes out to you. At least you got some $kiing in.
The fuel pump on our cars is just one of a few things that will leave
you stranded with little or no warning (the others are Cam Position
Sensor (CPS) and Serptentine Belt Tensioner (they can break)). I think
they should be on a list of preventative maintenance items for all
S-cars 10 years or older. They will fail and they won't (likely) give
any warning. Like you, my fuel pump failed on a trip (mine was to
Sooke, west of Victoria). Expensive and inconvenient. Not good.
I have in my hands my next replacement fuel pump. Its a Bosch 0 580 314
068 - 000 which fills the 8A0 906 091G slot in the parts list. There is
also a VDO pump and an Austrian (Pierberg (?)) available as aftermarket
pumps. I am putting my money on the Bosch to help cure my RS2 pinging
issue (fingers crossed). I purchased the Bosch pump from Rod at the
Parts connection before Christmas for US$119 (plus a bunch of coil-plug
connectors for US$4.95 each).
Let me/us know how you make out.
Dave F.
