Michael::

Its and early sign that the blower motor brushes/bearings are wearing out.
You might be able to prolong the time you can avoid doing the replacement 
by pulling off rubber hose that goes into the side of the fan motor and 
spraying some WD 40 onto that part of the motor.

I'm hoping that the same thing will get me through the winter, and then 
I'll replace both the fan and the heater core.
