This is possible by removing the rain tray cover.  BTDT on my (ex) 93
S4.  You'll plainly see a large tube running from left (standing at
the bumper, looking at the engine) to right - on the right end is the
blower motor.  I loosened the hose clamp holding the tube to the next
bit on the left, and then was able to spray WD-40 inside.

Be very careful not to lose the red spray-straw into the plenum, this
can be very annoying to get back out if it gets sucked into the blower
motor, especially in 100+ degree weather on the side of the interstate
in the moutains of New Mexico.   And you really have to remove it, as
it makes a nice racket flapping around in there...
