[s-cars] With all of the hybrid and other turbo options, is the RS2 turbo...

Another option is to clip the turbin wheel on the RS2 turbo to give it
better flow up top. I did this on my hybrid K27 #6 and it performs like a #8 at
the top end and still spools up quick like a #6.

I want to get close to the max HP with stock
internals, and I am wondering if I should go the RS2
route ($1400) or with one of the turbos offered by
garret or Javad? What is the max that I can expect
from a RS2 315 whp or so?

Mine did 325/401 at the wheels (corrected). The RS2 stuff is a very good
option... assuming you go with the turbo, EM, injectors, MAF and software.

Are the other makers as reliable? Has anyone had a failure from their
hybrid?

There are quite a few folks who have run hybrids built by Innovative Turbo
Systems, and many of us have had failures, or substantial smoke problems.
I
would highly recommend staying away from their products... too many
issues...
too many people. I'm a fan of sourcing my stuff through an authorized
Garrett shop, and as such, buy my turbos from TEC in Golden, CO. No
failures, and
solid performers. I've put quite a few into other folks cars, and have had
no issues.

By the way... DO NOT be tempted by ebay turbos... JUST SAY NO.

Has anyone had Javads RS2 comparible unit on a dyno?

I have not. Javad has quite a bit of excellent knowledge and experience.
I've talked with him offline numerous times for feedback on some of my own
projects, and consider him a great source of information. I don't know who
builds his hybrids, but would have to guess he's found someone reliable.

$1400 has me doing alot of thinking before I buy. For
you guys running a RS2 setup, would you do it again or
go a different route or stayed content with a MTM
chip?

For the most bulletproof, reliable, and simplest upgrade, it's hard to beat

the RS2. I've taken my car beyond that point, but could have been happy
with
the RS2 for as long as I owned the car. Very fun. No, I'd never be
content
with a K24 powered S-car... there's SO much more to be had... but that's
just me ;-)

If you're going to go the Garrett route, I would suggest a 50 trim cold
side, and use a stage 1,2 or 3 turbine wheel in a good aftermarket KKK
housing.
Stage 1 hits significantly sooner, but stage 3 gives you more peak hp.
I've
tested them all on a dyno, and all will do better in peak hp than the RS2.
All tests have been done on the same dyno, corrected the same way.
However,
none will make as much peak torque as the RS2. The RS2 makes 20-30ft/lbs
more
torque, and does it earlier. From a drivability perspective, it is the
clear winner. But the RS2 runs out of steam on the top end... since it's
compressor is only capable of moving about 34 lbs/minute efficiently.

If cost is the driver, keep in mind that while a brand new hybrid will cost
you less than $900, you will have to make oil and water lines. It isn't
difficult, but will take some extra time, and a couple hundred dollars.
Javad
does offer line kits that can save you the trouble.

HTH,
Dave
