Could be.  Mine is an MTM 1+ chip.  Don't know how the torque values compare.  Obviously the turbo kick on the MTM chip gives you a big rush that you don't get with the W8.  I think VW claims 0-60 times of around 6.8s with the 6-spd W8, so a chipped S4/6 should beat that.
