[s-cars] ECU Problem - Any solutions?

S-Gruppees:  This is actually a repost (and update) from Oct. 27/04:

A local S6 owner phoned me in October to see if I could help him: something happened to his ECU and now his car "fails to function as required" (tm).  I spoke with his mechanic (also my mechanic) and he said that the problem was caused by some injector ground wires shorting out and that the ECU was fixable (he has had others repaired before).  

Well, its been four months and a bit and the car owner has just phoned me and told me that our mechanic has told him the ECU can NOT be fixed.  I phoned the mechanic (who had farmed the "fix" (or non-fix in this case) out) and all he could tell me was the ECU is "kaput".  When pressed as to what exactly was f'd, he only said something about "Bosch parts hard to find", "injectors (mumble, mumble)", etc. (I wasn't impressed).

SOOOO....back to square one: a)  Does anyone think the ECU can be fixed? (I've cc'd Steve Eiche) and/or b) are there any spare ECU's for sale out there?  (with Prices).  Contact me directly. Thanks.
