[s-cars] A good fuel pump install question (??)

Sorry for yet another question but I think this is a good one, i.e.
useful to more than just me:

The new Bosch pump (German made) has two spade connectors and an
interesting little clip to hold them to the pump and away from each
other. The OEM VDO pump and the replacement VDO pump had threaded posts
(different sizes) and appropriate (flat with the correct size holes)
connectors and nuts. I have to cut these connectors off to install the
Bosch pump. However, since the gauge of the wire is very small (20?)
and I have previously installed a relay to the battery and run 12 gauge
wire from the battery (via the relay) to the top of the fuel sender, I
am wondering (thinking) why I don't just upsize the wires that go from
the pump to the top of the fuel sender (there is a two-wire T connector
that goes into the bottom of the fuel sender top plate).

I would have done this already but I don't know if the covering on my 12
gauge wire can handle being immersed in fuel forever. There must be a
spec for the coverings that can handle this service situation. I bought
the wire at NAPA in the summer.

Any automotive electrical types out there (Keith Maddock?) that can help
with this, hopefully, my last question?

Dave F.
