I phoned Sean Douglas (local to me), to discuss the wire coating/fuel
compatibility issue.  We concluded that I should test the impact on the
covering by placing some wire in some gasoline overnight (in a jar) and
see if there is any noticeable softening.  Not very scientific but its
better than nothing until I get some input from the list.

Oh, yeah.  I lied (memory failure).  The wire was 14 gauge (not 12).  It
was made by Federal Mogul and sold by NAPA.  I am guessing the wire
cover is PVC.
