[s-cars] AAN Oilpan Removal

Douglas,

Maybe I am the sole dissenting opinion so this should probably be treated
with a grain of salt but I would probably start the darn thing up and see if
it knocks. In my experience rod knocks are usually worst at a cold idle
situation. Two outcomes are possible; you do or you don't have a knock.

1) You don't - great, drive away happy with an oil pan gasket that doesn't
leak because it didn't quite get replaced right after your inspection that
would have found nothing.
2) You do have a rod knock - Well, time to pull the engine apart. How is
this different than pulling the pan and finding that you have a problem now
before cranking it up again? Some would argue that it's less metal through
the engine...possibly, but are you really going to be OK with pulling the
pan off now, seeing you have a spun rod bearing and simply replacing the rod
bearing that spun??? I sure wouldn't be on a 7k rpm engine with 18-20 lbs
of boost! I would be going in and cleaning it out just as if I had developed
the rod knock after not doing the inspection.

Just my 2 cents of rationale.

Subject: [s-cars] AAN Oilpan Removal

At the suggestion of several members, I am thinking about removing my
oilpan. As I recall, the sub-frame needs to be moved to do so which
can be done by removing the two forward bolts, right? What happens
when one does so? What is the sub-frame supporting that might come
down as well at that point?

Inquiring minds want to know.
