[s-cars] How about some wheels?

If you are running in SCCA classes, the "stock" size is based upon what was
availible for the vehicle at point of sale. However, since the tire size placard
on the gas filler door of the S-cars lists the 255/40-17 size as a
size with tire
factory recommended tire pressures, I would imagine at local (i.e. regional)
events, there would be little debate. By SCCA rules, the "bible" would be your
Bentley manual (my PC with the Bentley crashed, or I'd check), but it
is rarely something that would be challenged at a regional event. IF
you plan to go onto divisionals, nationals or Solo Tour events, THEN
you MUST have the appropriate shop manual for your car. This is
usually not a requirement for regional events, and it's not as if I'm
implying that running 17's would be cheating, I just can't verify with
my PC down. Finally, as a BTW, I tried running, just for fun, my S in
a regional
BMWCCA autocross. You will need absolutely the MOST tire you can fit under
the wheelwells of the S-car (i.e. the 17's) you can legally fit. The
car's weight
simply overwhelms smaller tires if driven to the tires limits. I
killed a 225/45-17
Dunlop SP8000 by running, and I ran the tires up to maximum sidewall pressure
(which the car also needs). Anyway, before you go and buy wheels, be
certain to check the Bentley as to what sizes of rims are listed as
"availible" for the S-car.
I think you'll be happily surprised.
