 John-

I bounced this off former lister Jim P. here as he was recently in a
similar debate (B5 S4 Avant result) . His thoughts sum up his recent
research well IMO.

Hope that helps.

You can lower the lowest setting on the AIR suspension a small bit (like
1/3 of an inch IFIRC). Hotchkiss Sport also makes some VERY nice sway
bars for the allroad to help button it down to the road. The air
suspension, in it's lowest setting, is pretty stiff. I actually found
it a little uncomfortable for daily driving relative to the B6 S4.
That being said, it was on the deck. The allroad 4.2 with tiptronic was
a bit slow vis-a-vis the B6 Avant. I think with some 18 in wheels and a
nice 350 hp package, the allroad mit 6-speed would be the better option.
At least that's the route I would have gone if I went with the allroad.

HTH.

you seem a good person to shed insight to this guy's quandary based off
of your search:

My '93 S4 just turned 211,000 miles, still running great, but I need to
replace it as my daily driver. I was considering a used M5, but price,
maintenance (I have a great independent Audi mechanic), and the need to
drive a mountain pass in the snow every day in the winter ruled this
out.
I'm down to the choice between an '02 or '03 S6 Avant and a 6 speed
Allroad. I know I can tweak the 2.7T to S-Car performance levels, but
what about the Allroad suspension?
Nobody seems to sell upgrades or airbag deletion options.
My issue with the S6 is the tiptronic. I've always driven manuals,
although after driving a S6, it didn't seem too bad in the manual mode.
Anybody out there have a S-Car with a tip that wants to share their
thoughts? What do you think of the super Allroad option? I defer to the
great wisdom of the list. Any help would be much appreciated.
