Fellow Car Nutz,
Drove an EVO for the first time today and really liked it. Criticisms I
had read about it in the past didn't really seems to be valid in my
opinion. This car could definitely be a daily driver. The suspension is
just fine compared to my H&R 29771 (S6+) setup on my pig, it was downright
comfy I'd say. I wonder what the new MR's tweaked Bilsteins are like
because this car was not harsh.
That big ol beer can holder on the deck lid doesn't block too much rear
visibilty either. The owner told me it actually blocks out the headlights
from cars that are behind him, so its got another function to boot.
Best part was the shifter, short and sweet, no slop. Makes mine feel like
an 18 wheeler. If one of the short shift kits available for our cars brings
the feel close to what the EVO had, well, I'm just going to have to ask
Santa for one of those this year. The one fault I could find was probably
a bit of throw out bearing noise. Pizzo, is this common to these cars?
Steering was very quick, you just have to fart and that thing will change
direction. I have a nice long uninterrupted sweeper on my way to work, I
only had to move the EVO's wheel about a third of the distance I usually do
in the S6. The one thing that I didn't like was the turning radius, seemed
larger than Ms Piggy's (and thats my only complaint really, nice).
Turbo had plenty of grunt down low, it seemed to lose its breath up high.
This car is very entertaining squirting around in traffic.
Brembo's are good, although I like the feel of my Big Reds better. Lock up
came sooner, but it just must be that things just happen a little slower in
the Avant.
Clutch was lighter than mine, take up was just fine too, no trouble taking
off from a stop.
Cloth Recaro's were nice, although a bit too snug for my taste, and I'm not
that wide.
Interior not so bad, but I wasn't really looking at it too much.
Don't know if the radio worked, never turned it on.
All in all good fun. I can see how someone could get a few speeding tickets
if they are not careful.
Gotta hunt down a turn in an STI next.
Not to worry though, I still like my UrS6 Avant, they are just slices of
different delicious pie's.
