Burt Rutan has a little starter kit for doing fiberglass fabrication,
it's geared toward building an airplane, but does come with a good
little manual, some material and informs you on how to do fiberglass
fabrication.  It's only $42.

aircraft spruce tends to be a bit more expensive than wicks, 

also great places to pick up small pieces of material, and a bunch of
other cool stuff.

teach one very receptive (and humble too, I might add :) ) DIY quick
