bob,

i think douglas is the one whose oil cooler got smashed, and yet had
to drive the car for another mile or so.  he's probably looking for
metal in the oil filter to see if there's any damage to the bearings.

bandsaws and hacksaws leave metal bits and are rather clumsy to use on
an oil filter.  i would suggest a pipe cutter for 4" pipe.  it will
be cleaner and easier to use.
