Well using the Miata tire calculator : 
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

The 45's will make the speedo 1.9% too slow and the 40's will make the 
speedo read 1.8% too fast.
Didn't want to type all the diameter, rev's per mile stuff that is shown 
when you use the calculator.

Why not the 245-40-17 ( size I am planning on getting soon)?  The tire 
calculator shows a  0.6% speedo too fast with them.
