Four things can do this:
- sticking slide pins on callipers
- sticking pads in carriers
- sticking Parking Brake Mechanism (PBM) in callipers
- sticking handbrake cable
I'm assuming they're the same as the old 4kq and 100q in which case
there's some good stuff on the following sites:
http://members.aol.com/c1j1miller/brake.html (Chris Miller/Peter Schulz)
http://www.s-cars.org/postnuke/print.php?sid=149 (Fred Munro)
If those methods don't work, you can try dismantling the PBM like I did:
http://www.heneghan.e7even.com/audi/parkingbrake.html
Somewhere on the internet, there's a pdf of a Lucas instruction sheet
that comes with a seal kit - I can't remember where I came across it
though. A pity, because it is one of the few official documents that
deals with the PBM.
If you can buy the handbrake cables cheaply, just replace them as
preventative maintenance. They're buggers to get to and nearly always
(I think in my case 5 cables out of 6) fail (go sticky) after about 10
years.

I have a rear caliper that is constantly rubbing, it killed my slotted
rotor all most to the point of not being able to feel the slots, I can
hear it grinding at slow speed without touching the brake. This rebuild
sounds easy enough, is that all there is to fixing a stuck caliper?
will this process fix my problem? should I rebuild or replace? thanks
Forrest
