[s-cars] RE: Baffled over boost

I had a (very) loose clamp on the lower turbo hose where it met the
crossover pipe. When the pressure built up to a certain point, it
would blow out suddenly. There was enough of a seal to hold it for a
few PSI and it would hold at 1/4 throttle, but blow out if I pushed on
the gas pedal too far.
As others suggested, I would have thought the bypass diverter valve
too. Are you sure the one that is in there is strong enough? I had
to replace mine with a forged one from ECS, although I didn't have
exactly the problem that you describe.
You are talking about the bypass diverter valve right? not the
wastegate bypass regulator valve? As a test you can disconnect the
vacuum from the wastegate to that valve. And if you have a boost
gauge, you could watch it to see if there is a difference with the
vacuum to the valve disconnected.

I've been on this list almost since its humble beginning and have soaked-up immeasurable bits of wisdom to the point where I feel like NO matter what goes wrong with my '93 S4, (and at 175,000mi it really has not been much at all! ) I can tackle the problem. I know most all of us would agree about the great worth of this virtual community. Thanks guys.
