Has anyone recently had the pleasure of removing and installing the
driveshaft or front axles?
All of the above plus rear axles in one weekend... quite recently due to my
new clutch/blown diff escapade. There are gaskets buried beneath the grease
everywhere a CV bolts to a flange... half shafts to rear diff... driveshaft
to rear diff and front diff... and front half shafts to trans.
Do you need them? Depends on how anal you are... IMHO, they are optional.
Non of the early cars, Audi or VW used them. Reinstalled clean, leakage will
be minimal at worst... and likely nonexistent.
HTH,
Dave
