[s-cars] "Multi-function" switch replacement--advice needed

Hi all,
I figured out where I was going wrong.
The problem was that the lower trim is attached to the multi-function
switches...and I mistakenly thought I had to take the lower trim off
first before I could get the switches out. Loosening the allen screw
that holds the switches to the steering column allowed the whole "kit
and caboodle" (including the lower trim piece) to come off, and *THEN*
the trim screws were accessible.
Now all I have to do is get hold of a VAG-COM to reset the air bag light
and I am good to go.
FYI one of the objectives of this job was to see if this eliminated the
problem I had with the cruise randomly shutting itself off, a problem
that others have reported as well. I will let you all know if this made
any impact on that problem or not, as I have a long highway trip coming
up soon.
Thanks to Robert for the quick response, although I think I had it
figured out by then. ;-)
Hope this helps someone else...the next one would take me about 1 hour
now that I know what I am doing. Is it worthwhile for me to put together
a write-up on this?
